County Reminds Voters: Insert Ballots Correctly To Keep Votes Private

McMinnville, OR – October 28, 2025

Yamhill County Elections officials are reminding voters to take an extra moment while sealing their ballots this election season. A small hole in the return envelope helps visually impaired voters locate the signature line, but if a ballot is inserted incorrectly, selections may be visible through that hole.

The hole also plays a key role in ballot processing. Staff use it to ensure no ballot is accidentally left inside an envelope during the official opening and deconstruction procedures.

To keep votes confidential, the Elections Office advises voters to fold ballots with the marked side facing inward, insert them so choices are hidden, securely seal the envelope, and sign in the correct location.

“Protecting voter privacy and ensuring accessibility are equally important,” said Yamhill County Clerk Keri Hinton. “We ask that voters double-check how their ballot is placed inside the envelope before sealing it.”

Voters with questions can contact the Yamhill County Elections Office at 503-434-7518 or visit the county website for more information.
