McMinnville (Yamhill County #5) DAV Auxiliary Needs New Members to Continue Local Support for Veterans

By Rebecca Wallis
McMinnville, OR – April 22, 2025 – updated to reflect the correct Auxiliary

The Yamhill County chapter #5 of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary (DAVA) is reaching out to the local community with an urgent need for new members. Without additional involvement, the chapter may be forced to disband, ending decades of volunteer service dedicated to supporting disabled veterans and their families.

The group meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Hall, located at 126 NE Atlantic St. in McMinnville. Their next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14, and all eligible community members are encouraged to attend and learn more.

Who Can Join?

Membership in the DAV Auxiliary is open to family and extended family members of veterans, including those who are currently serving, have served without injury, or have passed away. Junior memberships are also available for children under 18.

Those interested can begin a life membership with just a $20 down payment, with flexible payment plans available. Whether you’re able to attend meetings regularly or simply want to show your support, your membership strengthens the Auxiliary’s mission.

What the Auxiliary Does

Founded in 1922, the DAV Auxiliary continues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of disabled veterans, their caregivers, and their families. Through grassroots, community-based service, the Auxiliary offers programs such as:

  • Volunteer support at veterans hospitals and care facilities

  • Holiday events, school supply drives, and local outreach

  • Grants for youth activities through the DAVA 4 Kids program

  • Scholarships for individuals who volunteer in support of veterans

  • Resources for caregivers of disabled veterans

  • Promotion of patriotism and civic involvement

With the McMinnville unit’s membership made up primarily of seniors, the group is now seeking a new generation of volunteers and leaders to carry forward this legacy of service.

A Legacy Worth Continuing

“Our members have spent years supporting veterans and their families,” shared a local Auxiliary member. “We hope others in the community will step up and carry this mission into the future. This is a rewarding way to give back.”
