Newberg School District to Review Audit Report

By Rebecca Wallis

Newberg, OR – February 5, 2024

The Newberg School District Board of Directors’ Finance Advisory Committee is set to meet on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room of the Newberg School District Office (714 E. Sixth Street). The meeting will also be accessible via Zoom Webinar ID: 883 8516 8210 Passcode: 380322 for those who wish to attend virtually.

One of the key agenda items is the presentation of the 2023-24 Financial Audit Outcomes and the Annual Financial Report. Given the district’s recent history of financial and leadership instability, this report is expected to shed light on the district’s fiscal health and provide insight into any ongoing financial challenges.

Over the past two years, the Newberg School District has faced significant upheaval, from board shakeups and leadership transitions to contentious policy decisions. The financial audit comes at a crucial time when public trust in the district’s governance is still in question.

The meeting will also address a transition in leadership within the finance department, as the district shifts responsibilities from Gayellen Jacobson to Nate Roedel. Transparency in this transition will be essential to ensure continued financial oversight and accountability.

For parents, teachers, and taxpayers, this meeting provides an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge about how the district is managing public funds. A strong and stable financial foundation is critical to ensuring that students and educators have the resources they need. Attending the meeting—or at least tuning in via Zoom—allows the community to stay informed and engaged in decisions that affect the district’s future.

How to Participate

The agenda includes a review of the 2nd Quarter ADMw Report, the presentation of the 2023-24 Financial Audit Outcomes and Annual Financial Report, a Finance Committee Report, and a transition discussion as financial leadership shifts from Gayellen Jacobson to Nate Roedel. The meeting will also include time to discuss future Finance Committee meetings, though none are currently scheduled.
