NEWBERG, OR – January 29, 2025

The Newberg School Board is actively seeking applicants to fill a vacant board position representing Zone 1. The vacancy was triggered by the recent resignation of Trevor DeHart, whose term was set to expire on June 30, 2025. Interested candidates must be registered voters and must have resided within Board Zone 1 for at least one year prior to the appointment. If no qualified candidates from Zone 1 apply, the board may consider applicants from other zones within the district. The selected candidate will serve the remainder of the unexpired term through June 30, 2025.

The Newberg-Dundee Public Schools have faced significant challenges over the past three years, including controversies over board decisions, political conflicts, and leadership changes. The district has dealt with legal battles, community divisions, and shifting educational policies. This vacancy comes at a crucial time as the board works to stabilize governance and refocus on student success.

In addition to filling this vacancy, the May 2025 election will include three school board seats up for election:

  • Zone 1 (currently vacant following Trevor DeHart’s resignation)
  • Zone 4 (currently held by Nancy Woodward, term expiring June 30, 2025)
  • Zone 5 (currently held by Aubrey Nichols, term expiring June 30, 2025)

To be considered for the position, applicants must submit a letter of interest to Tabitha Renne at the Newberg-Dundee Public Schools District Office, located at 714 E. 6th St, Newberg, OR 97132, or via email at rennet@newberg.k12.or.us. Interested individuals will receive an application to complete and return by 5:00 p.m. on March 3, 2025.

Zone 1 encompasses a significant portion of the district, with boundaries defined by key roadways and waterways. The area includes portions of W First Street, S Main Street, Dayton Avenue, Chehalem Creek, the Willamette River, NE Worden Hill Road, NE Powell Hill Road, NE Fairview Drive, NE Red Hills Road, Harvey Creek, NE Fox Farm Road, and NE Sunnycrest Road.

A detailed map of Zone 1 is available online, and those seeking clarification on boundary lines can contact Tabitha Renne at 503-554-5041.

The Newberg-Dundee Public Schools Board consists of seven volunteer members who serve without compensation. The board is responsible for overseeing district policies, budgets, and educational initiatives to ensure student success.

Residents who meet the eligibility criteria and have a passion for public education are encouraged to apply. This appointment provides an opportunity to contribute to the leadership and direction of Newberg-Dundee Public Schools.

For more information or to verify residency eligibility, contact the district office at 503-554-5041.
